Between 1945 and 1965, over 300,000 Indo-Europeans, including the Belanda Hitam (Afro-Indo) families, crossed the oceans to a cold, unfamiliar Netherlands. They arrived at the Rotterdam harbour with rattan suitcases and quiet resilience, building a foundation in tight contract pensions so their descendants could thrive. This fine-art print speaks for the third generation. We are the ones who look back at the Johan van Oldenbarnevelt and the heavy winter coats over batik, recognizing the immense strength it took to start over. By weaving together Batik, Delft Blue, and Kente motifs into a single continuous braid, we claim our complex, beautiful heritage out loud.
