"Never Empty-Handed" Sankofa Water Bottle

The ultimate rule of hospitality unites our dual heritage: you never arrive empty-handed. This playful design reimagines the West African Adinkra symbol of the Sankofa bird. Traditionally depicted looking backward to retrieve a precious egg—symbolizing the importance of learning from the past—our bird is instead making sure it hasn't forgotten the rantang (stacked tiffin carrier). For the Belanda Hitam (Afro-Indo) community, whose roots trace from 19th-century Elmina (Ghana) to the KNIL garrison in Purworejo and eventually to Vianen in the Netherlands, the blending of Akan wisdom and Indische food culture is a lived reality. This bottle is a nod to the aunties and omas who ensure we are always fed, always hydrated, and always carrying a little extra just in case.
