'Mena Muria' is a traditional Moluccan rallying cry that dates back centuries, originating from the Alfur people of the Maluku Islands. Literally translating to 'front and back', it signifies absolute solidarity: if you go forward, I watch your back; we stand together as one. For the Moluccan diaspora, particularly the generations descending from the 1951 KNIL arrivals in the Netherlands, this phrase is much more than a historical motto. It is the beating heart of Ambonese identity, a symbol of resilience through the challenging years in the woonoorden (camps), and a proud declaration of enduring brotherhood. Today, it remains the ultimate expression of Maluku pride and unity.
