Before the British Invasion, there was Indo-Rock. In the late 1950s, Indische Dutch youth migrating from Indonesia brought a revolutionary sound to the Netherlands. Fusing Hawaiian, krontjong, and American rock 'n' roll, bands like the Tielman Brothers electrified Europe. Their defining moment came at the 1958 Brussels World's Fair (Expo 58), where they stunned audiences with wild stage antics—playing Fender Jazzmasters behind their heads, plucking strings with their teeth, and tossing upright basses into the air. This gig-poster design pays homage to that explosive era, mapping the sonic journey from Surabaya to Breda and The Hague. It is a tribute to the pioneers who proved that the European rock revolution was sparked by the Indo diaspora.
