The Cultural Story
Before the British Invasion, there was Indorock. In the late 1950s, Indo-European and Moluccan musicians arriving in the Netherlands brought with them a raw, rhythmic energy forged in places like Surabaya and Maluku. At the 1958 Brussels World's Fair (Expo '58), the Tielman Brothers shattered European musical conventions. With their Fender Jazzmasters, tape-echo amplifiers, and acrobatic stage presence—playing guitars behind their heads and plucking strings with their teeth—they ignited a rock and roll revolution. This design pays homage to that unbridled innovation, a proud testament to the Indonesian diaspora's foundational role in European pop music history. It is a story of displacement transformed into undeniable, electrifying art.
