In the late 1950s, Indo-European youth revolutionized the European music scene with Indo-rock, a high-energy blend of Hawaiian, krontjong, and rock 'n' roll. Among this vibrant Indische diaspora were the Belanda Hitam—Afro-Indo families descended from West African KNIL soldiers. These families originally formed a close-knit garrison community in Purworejo, Central Java, before their post-war repatriation to Dutch cities like Vianen. This design merges the iconic, acrobatic guitar style of early Indo-rockers with the West African Adinkra Sankofa bird. It is a tribute to the Afro-Indo community’s journey from Elmina to Java to the Netherlands, celebrating their enduring rhythm and vital place within the wider Indische cultural tapestry.
