The Cultural Story
In 1958, the Pastore-Walter Act opened a new chapter for the Indische community, allowing thousands of Dutch-Indos to re-emigrate from the Netherlands to the United States. Fleeing the cold Dutch climate and seeking new opportunities, these families formed the 'second wave' of the diaspora, settling heavily in Southern California—in towns like Whittier and Bellflower—and around Grand Rapids, Michigan. They brought their rich heritage with them, organizing massive Indo picnics, building community clubs, and preserving the recipes of their ancestors. This bold typographic design celebrates the Amerindo identity: American on the outside, proudly Indo at the table.
